Goldberg: Writing Down The Bones:

I really thought Writing Down The Bones was a useful packet for someone like me who isn't a natural writer. At first, I got intimidated when I started reading the packet because I thought I would never finish it. Because of some technical problems I am having with my Emich account, I wasn't able to get the packets to print out and read. Prof. Darling was nice enough to forward me the Pdfs which I needed to read for the class. I hate being behind in a class but I just hope the EMU IT department can fix the issue for me. After I printed out the packet, I thought" just get to it and do what you can".

I agree with Goldberg when she writes about how you have to listen to the voices in your head and go from there. I am someone who is constantly thinking to the point where I now suffer from insomnia. A friend of mine told me to just get up in the middle of the night and write down whatever pops up in my head at that time. I didn't listen to her because if I wrote down one thought, more would come to my head and it would just make me more anxious. But the way Goldberg describes that you can take a thought or voice from your head, write it down and just keep writing about that topic. Bottom line she says is " let the voices do the writing for you" .

I also like the idea of making a lists of topics to write about. Since I am not that talented in writing I think this tip will come useful to me. Goldberg writes about writing about a certain memory. Begin with " I remember". and go from there. I think we can write a lot based on memories and real life experiences.

Finally, I really liked Tap the Water Table.  It gives me confidence knowing that I don't have to be a talented writer to write. If we just practice writing and to listen to your voices the talent Will grow.

Aarti.
